Emergency First Aid at Work   EFAW

Emergency First Aid at Work EFAW courses are recommended for nominated emergency first aiders in workplaces with lower health and safety risks.  1 day Emergency First Aid at Work courses are ideal for smaller workplaces that present few health and safety risks where a nominated or appointed person is required to take charge in the event of an illness or accident.

Our Emergency First Aid at Work EFAW course is accredited by Qualsafe Awards.  The course meets current requirements for the Health and Safety (first aid) Regulations 1981 and complies with current UK and European resuscitation guidelines.

 

Course Content

On completion of training, successful candidates should be able to:

  • understand the role of the first aider including reference to: the importance of preventing cross infection; the need for recording incidents and actions; use of available equipment;
  • assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency;
  • administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure);
  • administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation;
  • administer first aid to a casualty who is choking;
  • administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding;
  • administer first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock;
  • provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries (including small cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds, small splinters).

Course Assessment and Certification

Candidates must demonstrate a willingness to learn along with interaction of group activities.  The trainer will check understanding, involvement and the ability of all students throughout the duration of the course.

The course is accredited by Qualsafe Awards and students will receive an Emergency First Aid at Work certificate which is valid for 3 years.


First Aid at Work (HSE FAW) (3 Day Course) (Qualsafe Accredited)

First Aid at Work (HSE FAW) (3 Day Course) complies with the HSE 1981 First Aid at Work legislation for a First Aider in the workplace and is accredited by Qualsafe Awards.

This is both a theory and practical course. The HSE require that there is a trained First Aider per 50 people on the premises at all times. It is designed for anyone who in their work could be called upon to administer First Aid. This course is certifcated for 3 years. The three day course requires 18 contact hours.

Who should be attending this course?  A person who is to be designated as a First Aider at Work.

All employers in the UK have a legal obligation to make First Aid provision for their employees under the First Aid Regulations 1981.

Course Content

Attendees will:

  • Understand the role of the first aider including reference to the use of available equipment and the need for recording incidents and actions.
  • Understand the importance of basic hygiene in first-aid procedures.
  • Assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency.
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious and/or in seizure.
  • Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded or bleeding and/or in shock.
  • Administer first aid to a casualty who is choking.
  • Provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries.
  •  Recognising the presence of major illness and applying general first aid principles in its management.
  • Soft tissue injuries.
  • Injuries to bones including suspected spinal injuries.
  • Chest injuries.
  • Burns and scalds.
  • Eye injuries including how to irrigate an eye.
  • Sudden poisoning and anaphylactic shock.
  • Provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries.

Course Assessment and Certification

Assessments: Theoretical and practical assessments on day three.

Certification: A short oral test will take place during the last session of the course. A certificate which is valid for 3 years is awarded to all successful students. Included FREE OF CHARGE is a comprehensive First Aid Manual as well as course notes.
